Today's Geratherm Medical AG looks back on a long history with its origins dating back to the year 1900. Thermometer production has a very long tradition in the Thuringian Forest, which supplied all the important raw materials needed for the production of thermometers. In the early days, the first thermometers were made at home during the winter months and sold.
Later, at the time of the GDR, many such small family businesses came together to form Geraberger Thermometerwerk. In the publicly owned company, around 2000 employees produced thermometers until the dissolution of the GDR in 1989. After that, the survival of this enterprise was uncertain. In 1993, parts of the company were acquired from the trust (Treuhand) and they continued to operate under the name Geraberger Thermometerwerk. In 1995, a new production building was built and in 1998, the name was changed to "Geratherm Medical GmbH" before the company went public in 2000. Geratherm Medical AG has since been admitted for official trading on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
This was followed in the 2000s by investments in Geratherm Respiratory GmbH and apoplex medical GmbH. Capillary Solutions was established in 2015, and a new glass melting plant was built in Geratal in 2018 for the production of glass tubes and medical capillaries. These are used for the production of glass thermometers.
