BIOThermare® – Natürlich aus dem Meer (Naturally from the Sea) stands for innovative hot/cold gel packs filled with seagrass gel, made in Germany. Whether used for cooling or warming, these eco-friendly gel pads can be applied just like conventional hot/cold compresses.


Another unique feature is the covers, which prevent chilling or burns during use. They are available either as child-friendly TRÖSTIES® animal rescue covers or as cotton waffle-piqué covers.

Seagrass as a Natural Raw Material

Unlike conventional hot/cold compresses, BIOThermare® relies on natural ingredients. Instead of traditional gel fillings, an eco-friendly seagrass-based gel liquid is used. This gel is made from washed-up Baltic Sea seagrass, giving this natural waste product a meaningful new purpose through upcycling.


The same commitment to natural and safe materials applies to the textile covers, which are made from certified cotton fabric.

Application – Just like conventional Compresses

BIOThermare® gel pads can be warmed in a water bath or chilled in the freezer, just like traditional hot/cold compresses. Before use, the gel pad should be inserted into its designated fabric cover.

  • For warming: Heat the compress in a water bath  (up to 80°C) for 4–5 minutes, then use for up to 30 minutes.
  • For cooling: Place the compress in the freezer at for at least 2 hours, then use for up to 20 minutes.

TRÖSTIES® are adorable animal-themed cotton-covers für the BIOThermare seagrass gel pads, designed to comfort children needing cooling or warming relief. Its name TRÖSTIES® is derived from the German term for "trösten" that means to comfort someone. The cute animal designs help soothe little ones while providing care—no additional wrapping is needed, unlike with conventional gel pads.

Available in two sizes: MAXI – For parents to use when comforting small children. MINI – For older children who prefer to handle the compress themselves.

Animal friends to choose from: Lion LEO, Fox FENIA, Dog HENRI, Unicorn EMMA and Dinosaur DIEGO.

TRÖSTIES® can also be used by adults! Alternatively, sets with plain cotton waffle-piqué covers (no animal motifs) are available.

To prevent accidental cooling/warming of the hand, the fabric covers feature a patented two-chamber system:

The front pocket (near the animal’s face) is for the gel pad. The hand goes into the terry-lined pocket behind.

TRÖSTIES®: Hand wash recommended to preserve print. Air-dry flat; iron lightly if needed.

Waffle-piqué covers: Machine wash at 30°C, air-dry flat, and iron on low heat.

While the film is skin-safe, direct skin contact should be avoided (as with traditional compresses):

  • Freezer-cold pads risk frostbite if applied too long.
  • Heated pads (up to 80°C) risk burns.

Always use the included TRÖSTIES® or waffle-piqué cover!

Seagrass gel is harmless—simply rinse skin/eyes with water. Like seawater, it may cause mild eye irritation. Clean surfaces with water and household cleaner.

 

They can be disposed of with regular household waste.
